Oran owned much land along with Sand stone quary... if his father owned no land past New York where did he get the seed money? Also spelled Orin Orrin Etc.
Oran also owned a Tavern sold off in 1844 to a Thomas Hyde. A piece of the ground is reserved to a John Smith Is this Ruluf's Hotel and tavern, and is Oran protecting the family interests from a heavy drinker, etc.? Oran is an adult before the family moves in 1817.
On this subject see Henry R. Timman Nov 11 2004 letter to Laura Anderson
Excerpt
This all brings me to the conclusions that:
1. Orrin Andress bought a total of 163+ acres from Thomas Benedict in two parcels and perhaps on a land contract. 113 acres was in lot 22, and 50+ acres in lot 21.
2. The deed from Benedict to Andress for the 50+ acres was never recorded, but Andress sells this in two parcles, both described as being from the Benedict Tract and with legal descriptions which match up the the entire tract.
3. Andress must have been buying on contract, as he sold off parts of lot 22 before he actually took title, This would have been possible in the days before title searches and title guarantees.
4. The tavern may have been standing already on the 20 acres of lot 21, as Ambrose Smith paid $ 1,200 for it - a good price for 21 acres in 1839 . Also, this deed describes the one acre across the road as being " in front of the tavern stand".
Land records Huron Co. Ct house Norwalk, Ohio See Recorder Vol 2, No 2 page 5,and 6. Orin was involved in 9 transactions.

Carlo Andress commenced life as a pioneer farmer, working early and late without any of the comforts and barely the necessities of life. For the wife of his earlier years he married one that was as willing to work as was he, and together they labored and managed to lay the foundation of a competency. He was elected justice of the peace in the time of T. Corwin, in 1842, and was for many years justice in Henrietta township, where he tried to have all troubles settles without any ill will. His wife was a Christian woman, having joined the Disciple Church while quite young, and remaining true to her early faith till the last. She was noted for her goodness to the poor and her kindness to the sick, and her sweetness of disposition is often spoken of until this day by the people who knew her best. Two brothers of hers and their dewscendants are living in Henrietta township at the present time. His second spouse was a moel wife and mother, devoting her entire time to her family. He could at this
time provide for his family far differently than in his younger days. He and his wife were deeply interested in the welfare of their children and the people that were of their household.
Our subject attended the primitive country schoools of his boyhood days, and Berea (Ohio) College two terms. He then assisted his father in the farm work, clearing the land of timber and undergrowth, and converting the virgin soil into fertile fields. At the age of about twenty-three years he commenced life for his own account, as a full-fledged farmer, and in his vocation has been highly successful. He now owns 134 acres of prime land, one hundred of which were cultivated by his father.
In 1859 Mr. Andress was united in marriage with Miss Matilda Elson, and three children were born to them, as follows: Maud (Mrs. Fred Fowler, of Berlin Heights, Ohio), born April 13, 1861; Ernest, born July 18, 1863, died January 16, 1873; and Leon, born March 13, 1865. The mother of these died in 1868, and in 1870 our subject intermarried with Adelaide Ennis, by which union there is one child, Frank, in the express office of Elyria. In 1872 Mr. Andress married Amelia Hutchison, daughter of William Hutchison, and children, as follows, were born to this union: Edna, at present at Painesville (Ohio) Seminary; Elsie, teaching school at Berlin Heights, Ohio; Walter, deceased; Henry, Fred and Bessie, at home. Politically our subject is a Democrat, but in local elections he invariably votes for the best man regardless of party.

William Lang Son of Bickford ALang 2nd
William Lang was born and reared on a farm in the old Granite State, and as a young man went to Pennsylvania where he engaged in teaching school. He had secured a good education and gained much knowledge from books which he read by the light of pine knots. He was married in Penn to Miss abrilla Van Swearign, a native of Penn., her family being originally from Maryland. The year 1823 witnessed their emigration to Ohio. They settled on the Western reserve in Lorain Co., when the city of Cleveland was but a small village. Mr Lang secured land from the Government and in the midst of the fo4rest developed a farm on which he made his home for many years. His wife died when hisd son Nicholas was a lad of fifteen. In 1855 he came to Iowa, locating in Putnum Twp., Fayette, Co., At the age of 94 he went to live with his son John in Wasioja, Minn. He tood a very active part in church work, having been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church from early life. His second marriage was to Sybil Andress Squires, a widow, and the mother of several children. In his 81st year, Willism Lang wrote: "I lived with my good grandfather, Bickford Lang Sr. I have often heard him speak of his uncle that was a sailor and visited them often at Greenland where he was a boy. I shall call his name Thomas Sr.

Lang history
"He was married in Penn., to Miss Abrilla Van Swearigen, a native of Penn., her family being originally from Maryland"My great Aunt Lottie Lang willed me the Van Swearigen family history book, marking out our generations. I made it out for Edd, he had it typed, Also has the book. This is that outline.
You may have some trouble figuring as my grandfather married his step sister and my mother's mother married Grandpa Truman who had first married her sister. Both families are outlined as related before first marriage in Ohio.
Before they quit the recorder to us Mrs Goodworth sent a complete outline of the Sybil Andress line to Frances and me. Perhaps a Mr Ward recieved one as her picture with him near Grandfather Lang.s grave is in it. Done beautifully in Colbalt blue with Silver decal of the Masonic Temple on it. She asked it be sent to the Lorain Co. Library in Elyria, Ohio. Also had Check's death notice in St Pt. I sent it to Sandra with a check for her to forward. She wrote after being there and said you asked her in. Said you knew Burd and asked what my relationship to your family was. I don't care to Keep in touch with her. (Rather not able) to she adressed me as "Dear Hazle". Not at all sure you want this...must be another page
